Mitragyna
Mitragyna speciosa
Family: Rubiaceae
Mitragyna speciosa is a tropical evergreen tree native to Southeast Asian rainforests. Its leaves contain a complex alkaloid profile centred on mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which interact with opioid and adrenergic receptor systems. The plant is the subject of significant pharmacological research for novel analgesic pathways.

Traditional Use
Used for centuries by agricultural workers and labourers in Thailand and Malaysia as a stimulant at low doses and for pain relief at higher doses. Leaves were traditionally chewed fresh or brewed into a tea to combat fatigue during long working hours.
Active Compounds
Mechanisms of Action
